Prior to 2006, Clay Guida was earning a living as a carpenter while training and fighting in his spare time. After compiling a 20-3 record, Guida, nicknamed "The Carpenter", defeated Justin James at UFC 64. This bout was the only undercard fight of the night shown on the Pay Per View broadcast.


Guida continues to fight in the UFC as a lightweight. He was the first Strikeforce Lightweight Champion. Known for his relentless pressure and tremendous stamina, Guida is ranked as the number 8 lightweight fighter in the world by MMAWeekly.
